Luxury Vinyl Plank Care & Expectations
Vinyl plank, otherwise known as LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) or LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile), is becoming more and more popular in the flooring industry. The product is attractive, affordable, easy to maintain, and most often waterproof.
There are mainly two kinds of LVP installation methods depending on the plank you buy – ones that glue down with the recommended adhesive products, and ones that don’t need adhesive but rather have an inbuilt interlocking or tape down system. Both types have specific guidelines for installation, please refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Protecting your investment/Maintenance:
It’s very important, as with all floors, to use protectors under all furniture and appliances.
You will also want to protect your floor from direct sunlight. There are many plank options that have a UV cured or polyurethane finish to help protect the vinyl from the sun but they don’t make anything that’s “sun-proof”. Direct sunlight can create bubbles. Simply close your blinds/shades at those peak times of the day to keep your floor looking great!
Never use vinegar (it’s for pickles-not flooring) or Lysol, Mr Clean, Fantastic, etc. These cleaners have a too high detergent content that will never completely rinse off and eventually create a film that may cause your floor to look washed out. Always use the manufacturer’s suggested product.
The use of non-staining backed mats is necessary at doorways to keep grit/sand/dirt to a minimum to avoid surface scratches.
Always protect the floor whenever moving anything across it. Don’t drag anything without using protective measures. Scratches are not covered by manufacturer’s warranties, so please take these precautions.
Maintenance is the most important way to ensure a long life for your floor.
